Sturm Graz Bolsters Team with Loan Signing of Lovro Zvonarek from FC Bayern Munich

Austrian champions Sturm Graz are strengthening their team for the coming season with midfielder Lovro Zvonarek from FC Bayern Munich.

Kicker had already reported on the loan intention, and now the deal is complete: 19-year-old midfielder Lovro Zvonarek is moving on loan from German record champions Bayern Munich to the current champions of the Austrian Bundesliga. The offensive midfielder is expected to gain match practice there, which he would have had difficulty getting in Munich. There is no purchase option in the loan contract.

Zvonarek only signed his first professional contract with Bayern in May. But there were already reports of a possible loan for the coming season. “Lovro Zvonarek is a very exciting player who has everything he needs to make it in professional football,” Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund is quoted as saying. “At the age of 16 he was already captain of the first Croatian league in his home country, and at 19 he already plays very mature football. We are convinced that he will take the next steps at Sturm Graz by gaining experience in the Bundesliga and Champions League.”

Graz won the Austrian championship last season and thus qualified for the premier class.

“Lovro Zvonarek is a highly talented player for the attacking midfield, who has already made his first appearances for FC Bayern at his young age, but is far from finished in his development. He is technically very strong and has excellent football training,” said Sturm’s sports director Andreas Schicker, describing his new signing.

Zvonarek played five times for Bayern in the Bundesliga last season, his only start in the Home game against Wolfsburg (2:0) He even scored his first goal and was allowed to play the full game. “SK Sturm is a top club in Austria and is playing in the Champions League this season. I can’t imagine a better place to take the next step in my development,” said the Croatian.
