BADMINTON OF SURINAME RETURN TO OLYMPIC GAMES IN PARIS 2024

Sören Opti has become a sports icon in Suriname, thanks to his great contributions to his country through badminton, competing at the highest levels in the world, such as the Olympic Games.

Qualified again for the most coveted tournament by athletes that will be played this summer, Opti will compete in Paris 2024 after missing the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, held in 2021, due to having given up positive for COVID-19.

Flag bearer at the Opening Ceremony in Rio 2016 for his delegation, in his Olympic debut, Sören is one of seven athletes from the continent in men’s badminton, which is a great recognition of his career.

Additionally, together with Kevin Cordón from Guatemala, Uriel Canjura from El Salvador and Luis Ramón Garrido from Mexico, they represent the member countries of the Central American and Caribbean region, affiliated with Centro Caribe Sports.

PARIS 2024, THE REVENGE

The Parisian event could be Sören’s revenge, given his involuntary absence from Tokyo 2020 due to the pandemic, and he has his sights set on delivering a good tournament.

Suriname has three athletes qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where Opti will have as company, so far, Jaïr Tjon En Fa in cycling, Keirin and Sprint modalities, and Renzo Tjon-A-Joe in swimming.
