Tatsuru Saito Wins Gold at Lima 2024 Pan American Judo Open

The Japanese multi-champion took the gold medal by beating Peruvian Franck Mayer in the +100 kg final at Videna Sports Centre 1.

Tatsuru Saito, currently seventh in the world judo ranking, took the gold medal and the flashes at the Lima 2024 Pan American Judo Open, which took place successfully on June 21 and 22 at the Sports Center 1 in Videna. This tournament, which brought together outstanding judokas from the region, was a true spectacle of skill and competition.

The Japanese, known for his impeccable technique and strength on the tatami, showed why he is one of the best in his category. His path to gold was not easy, facing high-level rivals, but his determination and skill allowed him to overcome each obstacle and secure victory.

“This Pan American OPEN brought together world figures who were looking to strengthen their qualification with a view to the Olympic Games and confirmed Juan Postigos, who will compete in his fourth Olympic Games in Paris 2024,” said the sensei and president of the Peruvian Sports Judo Federation, María Martínez.

Happy to achieve gold

Tatsuru Saito, 22, who won a silver medal at the 2022 World Judo Championships, is the son of two-time Olympic gold medalist and world champion Saito Hitoshi. “I came to Peru to score points for the Olympic Games and that’s why I’m happy to win this gold medal. It’s my first time in Lima, it’s been a long journey,” said the world judo figure, after speaking about his goals for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“I am going to win the gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games, it is my only goal and this competition in Peru is part of my preparation. “He spent 16 years in this beautiful sport of judo,” she concluded.

Tatsuru Saito was one of the many stars present at the Lima 2024 Pan American Judo Open, which was successfully held at the Videna Sports Center. More than 105 judokas from 33 countries showed off on the tatami, displaying a great performance.
