Teichmann can still win
Jil Teichmann has ended her long dry spell and won her first match in the main draw of a WTA tournament since last October at the WTA 250 tournament in Palermo. The 27-year-old Swiss beat the young Serbian Mia Ristic in the first round 6:1, 6:1. The draw was kind to Teichmann. The 18-year-old Ristic is ranked 90 places lower in the world rankings than the Swiss and had no chance in only her second match at this tournament level.
Waltert fails dramatically
Simona Waltert (WTA 248) has meanwhile missed out on her first win of the season in the main draw of a WTA tournament. The Graubünden native lost to Maria Timofejewa (WTA 103) in the first round of the 250 tournament in Budapest after a battle lasting almost two and a half hours, 5:7, 6:7 (3:7). After successfully qualifying, Waltert experienced a veritable rollercoaster ride against the Russian on clay. In the first set, she gave up a 4:1 lead and wasted a set point at 5:4. In the second set, she came back from a 1:4 deficit, but had no chance in the tiebreak.
