Tennis World Mourns the Loss of DTB President Claus Stauder

Sad news from the tennis world!

The long-time president of the German Tennis Association (DTB), Claus Stauder, died at the weekend at the age of 86. His family announced this.

Stauder was president of the DTB from 1985 to 1999 and experienced one of the most successful periods of German tennis during his time. During his term in office, Boris Becker and Steffi Graf became world stars and created a huge tennis hype in Germany.

Stauder had a doctorate in law and was the owner of the well-known Stauder brewery in Essen. In 1967, he took over management of the traditional brewery as the fifth generation together with his brother Rolf.

The current DTB President Dietlof von Arnim said: “We bow to a great personality in tennis. Dr. Claus Stauder has created a monument for himself with his decades of work at the DTB. With calm and prudence, he led the DTB through its most successful era.

Stauder’s awards include the Golden DTB Badge of Honour, the Grand Federal Cross of Merit and the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
