Andy Murray wants to bid a fitting farewell to the grass court classic. However, it is still unclear whether the Scot will actually play.

Andy Murray is still feeling the after-effects of his operation – but is fighting undeterred to be able to compete in the tennis classic in Wimbledon. “The operation on his back was not insignificant. I still don’t have 100 percent feeling and sensation in my leg, but it’s getting better every day,” said Murray on Sunday. The two-time tournament champion had a cyst removed last Saturday.

Whether Murray, whose career is about to end, will get a fitting farewell at the grass tournament will probably be clear on Monday. Then, after another training session, the Scot will probably decide whether he will compete in his first round duel with Tomas Machac from the Czech Republic on Tuesday. The crowd favorite has also registered for the doubles alongside his brother Jamie.

Murray, who triumphed at the grass court classic in 2013 and 2016 and also twice at the Olympics, had spoken openly beforehand about what a final participation in Wimbledon would mean to him despite physical problems. “It’s complicated and is made even more complicated by the fact that I want to play in Wimbledon again,” said the 37-year-old.
