The Boston Celtics Ownership Group Plans to Sell Majority Stake in 2024 or 2025

Grousbeck (Wyc Grousbeck) and partner Steve Pagliuca (Steve Pagliuca) lead the group “Boston Basketball partners”, which bought the team in 2002 for 360 million US dollars. In the last twenty years, the value of many clubs has increased 10-15 times.

For example, Matt Ishby bought the Phoenix Suns in February 2023 for four billion dollars. Jimmy and Dee Haslam paid 3.5 billion for the Milwaukee Bucks a few weeks later, while the Adelson and Dimon families paid the same amount for the Dallas Mavericks in December.

The Boston Celtics have the most titles in the National Basketball Association and rank third among all North American professional clubs. New York Yankees baseball players (27) and Montreal Canadiens hockey players (24) have more successes.

Celtics owners said in a statement that they plan to sell majority shares in 2024 or early 2025. It is expected that Vik Grausbek will continue to perform the duties of the club’s manager (Governor) until 2028.

The group led by Grausbek has experienced four NBA finals and two titles – in 2008 and 2024. During this time, the Celtics have won the third most victories in the regular season, trailing only the Texas teams San Antonio Spurs and Mavericks.

ESPN reported Monday that Boston has agreed to a four-year, $125.9 million contract extension with Derrick White. The evening was followed by the announcement of the largest contract in NBA history – five years and 314 million dollars, continuing cooperation with Jayson Tatum.
