The Ideal Eleven: Standout Players from the Euro 2020 Round of 16

The round of 16 is over, Spain, Germany, Portugal, France, Netherlands, Türkiye, England and Switzerland have qualified for the quarter-finals. The eight surviving teams have had key players in their qualification. There have been numerous candidates, but in the end this has been the ideal eleven.

1

Diogo Costa, goalkeeper

Portugal

Undoubtedly the star of the Portuguese team in their match against Slovenia. He showed his usual effectiveness in stopping penalties and stopped three out of three in the shootout, but he also saved a goal-scoring ball from Sesko with his left foot in the 85th minute.

2

Jules Koundé, defense

France

France are not quite getting going, although they are still advancing, but Barça’s Koundé did, playing at right back. Not only was he able to keep up with the skilful and powerful Doku, but he also ran down the wing several times, giving his team offensive arguments.

3

Antonio Rüdiger, defender

Germany

The centre-back put in a tremendous defensive display against Denmark in a match in which he made 13 recoveries and won 100% of the duels he played. That was apart from a few interceptions in an imperial match for the Real Madrid player.

4

Merih Demiral, defense

Türkiye

He scored two goals from corner kicks, which ended the Austrian team’s performance, which had played at a high level and even deserved more. He was also impeccable in defence. He recovered nine balls and ran about 10 kilometres.

5

Rodri, midfielder

Spain

The Manchester City midfielder put in a decisive performance against a Georgian team that took the lead. Not only did he set the pace of the match, but he also scored a great goal with a very high-quality shot and control.

6

Granith Xhaka, centrocampista

Swiss

The Swiss midfielder is having a great Euro Cup. The Swiss team’s entire game revolves around their passing accuracy, which is around 95%. Italy ended up suffering from it.

This is the ideal eleven for the Euro Cup round of 16.

Huga Navarro (MD 7)

Jude Bellingham, centrocampista

England

More than for his consistency in play and England’s poor performance in general, the Real Madrid player has earned a place in the eleven for the round of 16 due to the importance of his overhead kick against Slovakia five minutes into the game. The match went into extra time and that’s where Kane sealed the deal.

8

Arda Guler, centrocampista

Türkiye

The 19-year-old footballer has been one of the sensations of this tournament. He once again had a good game against Austria, but he also took the two corners that led to Demiral’s goals and the subsequent Turkish victory.

9

Ruben Vargas, winger

Swiss

The 25-year-old Augsburg winger put in a decisive performance. He assisted Freuler for the opening goal against Switzerland and scored his own goal to put the current European champions into the quarter-finals.

10

Cody Gakpo, forward

Netherlands

The striker has already scored three goals in this European Championship. Against Romania he not only opened the scoring, but his insistence on fighting for a ball with Dragusin who seemed lost ended with an ‘impossible’ assist for his teammate Malen in the 2-0.

11

Nico Williams, winger

Spain

Another masterful performance from the left winger of the Spanish national team. He is dangerous in every run and in every dribble. Against Georgia he rounded off his performance with an unstoppable shot that made it 3-1.
