The Judoka of TSB Ravensburg Secure Convincing Victory Against ESV Ingolstadt in Bundesliga Showdown

The judoka of TSB Ravensburg achieved a convincing 9:5 home victory against the coyotes of ESV Ingolstadt on the fifth day of the 2nd Bundesliga. According to their coach Uli Rothenhäusler, the Ravensburg team showed strong performances in an exciting encounter and secured important points.

“We sent the coyotes from Ingolstadt home empty-handed and kept the points here in Ravensburg. A very important victory against a strong opponent,” said Rothenhäusler.

Close on the heels of the league leaders

In the long-distance duel for the championship, VfL Sindelfingen beat HTG Bad Homburg 11:3. TSB Ravensburg is second in the table with 7:1 points, VfL Sindelfingen is top of the table with 8:0 points. Third is Bundesliga relegated team JC Rüsselsheim with 6:2 points.

In a Kuppelnauhalle that was well-filled despite the heat, the competition began with a confident victory by Marco Frey from Ravensburg (up to 81 kilograms), who prevailed with a shoulder throw and subsequent hold. After a narrow defeat by Luca Guilbaut against Georg Buschmann (up to 73 kilograms), the French runner-up Mohamed-Motassar Rouahi showed his class in the heavyweight category (over 100 kilograms).

The two Ingolstadt fighters up to 100 kilograms and over 100 kilograms have won all of their fights in the league so far. We had no chance here either. All the other fights were on an equal footing.

TSB-Trainer Uli Rothenhäusler

The 125 kg athlete from ESV Ingolstadt gave the bravely fighting “Haanka” Bathuyag from TSB no chance and put the Bavarians in the lead for the first time. After victories by Niklas Böhm (up to 66 kg) and Matteo Gruber (up to 60 kg), Christian Vögele (up to 100 kg) lost to the very strong Georgis Aslandis. The German youth champion in the ranks of the TSB judoka, Leandro De Luca, took a 4:3 halftime lead in a top fight against Nikos Moulatze (up to 90 kg).

For the rematch, Rothenhäusler made the two necessary changes. Elis Bonitz came on for Frey and Oliver Leins was allowed to take to the mat for Bathuyag. After the break, only the two top fighters up to 100 kilograms and over 100 kilograms scored the expected points for the Ingolstadt team. The other five fights now went exclusively to the Ravensburg team.

Elis Bonitz (up to 81 kg) defeated Jonas Holtmann with a chokehold, Luca Gulibaut (up to 73 kg) forced Andreas Bauhofer to give up with an armbar. After Niklas Böhm (up to 66 kg) once again gave Dimitros Tsanidis no chance, the spectators were able to experience two more top-class fights, according to Rothenhäusler. Matteo Gruber, nicknamed Magic, performed magic against Da Silva Bruno (up to 60 kilograms), showed his technical skills and won the decisive eighth point for the TSB.

Top duel in the Sindelfingen Glass Palace

In the final duel up to 90 kilograms, Leandro De Luca threw the Greek Nikos Moulatze, who had already finished third in the European Cup, in the very last second with what Rothenhäusler called a “beautiful inner thigh throw” to make the final score 9:5.

“The two Ingolstadt fighters up to 100 kilograms and over 100 kilograms have won all of their fights in the league so far. We had no chance here either. All the other fights were on a level playing field. Here we won nine out of ten fights,” said the proud TSB trainer. In just under two weeks, the Sindelfingen Glass Palace will see the duel of the undefeated teams on the penultimate day of the season: Bundesliga relegated VfL Sindelfingen hosts promoted Ravensburg.
