Kylian Mbappe was able to lead France to advance to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024. In this match, Mbappe who appeared as a starter played again wearing a mask. The new Real Madrid striker also wore a mask when playing against Poland in the group stage. Mbappe had to wear a mask after suffering a broken nose when playing against Austria in the first match.

The 25-year-old had previously expressed his discomfort with playing with a mask. Playing with a mask seemed to have affected Mbappe’s performance against Belgium.

Mbappe still looks explosive even with the mask on. According to SofaScore, he managed to record five successful dribbles out of nine attempts.

However, the mask he was wearing was obstructing Mbappe’s vision. This affected Mbappe when he made the final finish. It was proven that out of the total five shots he released towards the Belgian goal, none of them were on target.

That was revealed by French coach Didier Deschamps. Deschamps revealed that Mbappe must immediately get used to playing with a mask. Because, he will continue to wear a mask until his injury is completely healed.

“He’s getting used to it. Sweating can still bother him and it can get in his eyes and make it difficult to see. Even if it’s only a tenth of a second, it’s crucial,” Mbappe was quoted as saying by the BBC.

“He’s going to have to get used to it because he’s probably going to be wearing it for a few weeks or even a few months,” he said.
