The match between Stan Wawrinka and Gaël Monfils is suspended at two sets to nothing for the Frenchman

The night put a premature end to the “duel of the buddies” this Wednesday evening. Well started against Stan Wawrinka (7-6 [5]6-4, 5-5), Gaël Monfils was stopped dead in the third set. The 37-year-old Frenchman, in search of a qualification for the third round of Wimbledon, will meet his Swiss friend this Thursday to finish the match.

Despite missing four break points at 4-2 in the second set, Monfils took advantage of Wawrinka’s numerous unforced errors (18 in the first set alone) to lead two sets to zero. Wawrinka, however, picked himself up in the third set.

In the third round, the winner will face the winner of the duel between Grigor Dimitrov and China’s Juncheng Shang, which will take place on Thursday.
