The Red Devils Eliminated: De Bruyne Faces Criticism After European Football Championship Loss

Football

The Red Devils were eliminated in the round of 16 of the European Football Championship on Monday. France proved to be too strong with 1-0. Captain Kevin De Bruyne had to explain it afterwards, including to the foreign press.

De Bruyne was asked by Tancredi Palmeri (an Italian who works for SportItalia and CNN, among others) if he regrets that the Belgian ‘Golden Generation’ has not reached the final again. The midfielder asked a question in return: “What is a Golden Generation?” Palmeri: “Yours”. De Bruyne: “And France, England, Spain, Germany don’t have one?”

In the video above, it is not possible to see what De Bruyne says when leaving the press conference. That was picked up by cameras on the other side. “Stupid,” responded the Red Devil. Loosely translated: “Stupid question.”

It prompted the Italian journalist to lash out on X (Twitter): “Aha, De Bruyne just called me stupid. Hey Kevin, little memo for you: the golden generations you mentioned, France, England, Germany and Spain, they all reached a final! Yet another footballer who only wants to be asked how good they are. Spoiled brat.”
