The Spurs are still active in the market according to multiple rumors, the recruitment of Chris Paul not being enough. They even made an offer to the Jazz for their star.
The summer is still long for NBA franchises, and count on the Spurs to take advantage of it. The Texan team has already struck a nice blow with the confirmed arrival of Chris Paul, who should greatly facilitate Victor Wembanyama’s life and will be important for the development of Stephon Castle. But it will probably take a little more to reassure the fans for the future.
Even if San Antonio won’t be playing for the title in 2025, that doesn’t mean the front office wants to relive a season of squatting in the last spots of the Western Conference. We’re potentially waiting for the signing of another veteran, or a trade to recruit a new star alongside Wemby. We’re going for the second scenario right now since San Antonio has reportedly made an offer for Lauri Markkanen.
Spurs ready to do anything for a player?
According to information from Tony Jones, for The Athletic, the rumors about Markkanen are real. The Spurs want to recruit the 27-year-old center from the Jazz, but negotiating with Danny Ainge is not easy. They have already sent an offer, however, Utah is asking much more to give up its player.

Knowing that Markkanen only has one year left on his contract, it’s not certain that teams want to spend too much on such a player. In reality, it’s the Jazz who will soon find themselves in a position to sell the Finn, or give him a huge contract.
The Spurs are well on their way to signing Lauri Markkanen, but it’s a deal that could take time given the Jazz’s position. A saga that could take several months if no one cracks.
