The Success Story of Judo Club Sakura Arma di Taggia: A Legacy of Excellence in Judo and Ju-Jitsu

The Judo Club Sakura Arma di Taggia asd began its activity in 1974, when M° Alberto Ferrigno, now Maestro Benemerito 7° Dan, together with the President Rita Lovrinovich and a small group of enthusiasts, founded the Club, where he still holds the role of Technical Director, assisted by the technical staff made up of Molinari Andrea, effective 2024, 5° DAN Jiu Jitsu, Manuela Ferrigno, 4° Dan Judo Master and 4° Dan Ju Jitsu Coach, Alessio Ferrigno, 3° Dan Judo Instructor and Aspiring Ju Jitsu Coach, Cristina Ronzitti, Aspiring 3° Dan Judo Coach and Samuele Della Torre, Aspiring 3° Dan Judo Coach.
All the technicians are Fijlkam graduates, many of them are qualified to teach MGA (Global Self-Defense Method) and qualified to teach by FIPE (Italian Weightlifting Federation).
Over the years, the Judo Club Sakura Arma di Taggia asd and M° Alberto Ferrigno have obtained many awards from Fijlkam and CONI, receiving, among others, respectively, the Silver Star and the Gold Star for sporting merit.
During its activity, the Judo Club Sakura Arma di Taggia asd has obtained numerous important results in the Finals of the Italian and Absolute Championships, five athletes have been part of the Italian Judo National Team and for several four-year periods the Club has been positioned in the high areas of the national rankings. In the regional field, the Company has always been classified in the first positions of the annual regional rankings.
For the competitive Judo sector, the athletes trained by Master Alberto Ferrigno and Instructor Alessio Ferrigno have achieved numerous notable results: Lorenzo Rossi, a recognized “Azzurro” athlete and of national interest, continues his activity both nationally and internationally.
After participating in the 2021 European Junior Individual Championships and the Individual and Team World Championships, in 2022, after numerous placings in high-level competitions, he won the Italian Junior Championship in the +100 kg weight category.
Another athlete involved in European level competitions is Samuele Della Torre, Senior Kg. +100, who participates in European Cup competitions. He obtained an excellent 5th place at the 2022 Absolute Championships.
One athlete who is now making her way into national competition is Junior Lisa Riccio.
The Club can count on a large judo youth team, from which it is hoped some new promising athletes will emerge.
In the field of Ju-Jitsu, under the guidance of the Technical Teachers M° Andrea Molinari and Manuela Ferrrigno, the activity continues incessantly with the competitive practice of the Fighting System and Ne Waza and the group dedicated to the study of the Sectors and Personal Defense (MGA) continues to grow.
The athletes continue to take part in important national and international stages, tournaments and championships, achieving excellent results.
Among others, Maya Benvenuto excelled in the 2022 Ju Jitsu Italian Cup, winning gold, while Diego Secchi and Mattia Cicala placed 3rd.
In the 2022 Italian Class Championship, Lisa Antellini placed 1st, while Diego Secchi won the bronze medal.
Around them, a large group of athletes who form a very well-matched group, who participate in training courses and competitions with excellent results.
