“The team is emotionally affected”

MADRID, 2 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Spanish international basketball player Alba Torrens acknowledged on Tuesday that the national team is “emotionally affected” after the injury of point guard Silvia Domínguez, so she advocated “to recover in order to move forward” and face the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris (France) with the “best level in every sense.”

“Right now the team is emotionally affected. Silvia is a very important person in this group and her absence has obviously affected us, first for her and then of course for the team because of what she means, what she has given and gives,” said Torrens from the Caja Mágica facilities in Madrid.

“Now it’s up to all of us to come back together and move forward and together make up for this loss, to continue and continue preparing to find our best level in every sense,” added the Valencia Basket forward on the return to training of the team led by Miguel Méndez, after a few days of rest.

Torrens also spoke about this preparatory stage for the Olympics. “We did the first phase of the training camp, the objective was to continue building the team and keep growing. I think that the first objective has been met, both in terms of training and then the two matches; not only because of the result, but because of the game that was shown and what we wanted to bring to the matches,” he said.

“After this break, it’s time to get going again to continue growing and preparing for the final goal,” said the Spanish player, who was cautious despite the recent victory (70-46) against China in a friendly match. “Even if we won that match by a large score, we know China’s potential,” she said.

“We know that they are a world power, we know about their quality, they also lacked players. It is true that I think we have to value what we did because it was the start of the training camp and everything we put on the court. But of course we cannot focus on that match as an example of what can happen at the Olympics,” warned Torrens.

In this sense, he added: “We are going to use it to prepare ourselves even better, to see what can be improved and to see what we can do. But not only against China, but also against the other two rivals.” “We are going to take away the good things, but above all, what we can do better to prepare for that first match against them,” he concluded.
