The Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games will take place on Friday 26 July 2024. For the first time in the history of the Summer Games, this event will not be held in a stadium, but on and around the iconic Seine. The ceremony will start at 19:30 and will last more than three hours. Some 94 boats will transport the delegation of more than 10,000 Olympic athletes, with the Greek delegation traditionally leaving first and the French delegation arriving last at Iena Bridge for the grand finale at the Trocadero Square.

The boat parade covers a route of six kilometers. Along the quay and on the bridges of the Seine there are performances and shows by various artists. The parade also passes by Olympic competition locations such as Place de la Concordewhere the BMX competitions will take place. Thomas Jolly, theatre actor and director, has been appointed as artistic director and aims to showcase the multifaceted culture of France, with a mix of musical styles such as Edith Piaf, opera and rap.

The public can attend the ceremony for free, with around 222,000 people on the upper quays of the Seine, while 104,000 paying spectators are welcome on the lower quays. The organization expects that 1.5 billion TV viewers worldwide will follow the parade on the Seine.
