This will go down in Wimbledon history. It was already 5-0 in the fifth set Tennis

The 39th tennis player in the world, Tomas Machac, was supposed to open this year’s Wimbledon on Tuesday evening on Centre Court, because his opponent was Andy Murray. However, the Scot withdrew from the singles tournament, which forced the organizers to adjust the schedule. In his place jumped the lucky loser of the qualifications, Belgian David Goffin.

Unbelievable scenes at Wimbledon. He was leading 5-0 in the fifth set and lost

Machac and Goffin competed on court no. 8. Their match was interrupted on Tuesday and finished the next day. The match started brilliantly for the Belgian, who was once the seventh player in the world and has twice reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. He won the first two sets 6:3 and 6:3. The third set also went his way. He led with a break three times, but each time he also lost his serve. Ultimately, it was Machac who won 6:4. In the following minutes, he definitely dominated, which turned into a 6:1 result and a fifth set.

Winning two games in a row made the Czech the favourite to win, but David Goffin took the lead 5:0 with two breaks in just over fifteen minutes. This is a situation in tennis – especially men’s – from which you theoretically cannot save yourself, but Tomas Machac did the impossible. He brought the score to 5:5, not even allowing his opponent to get a match point! Eventually, there was a tiebreak in the fifth set, which is played to 10 won points. The Czech won 10:4.

“UNBELIEVABLE,” tennis journalist Jose Morgado wrote on Twitter. “I have no idea what I’m witnessing,” Tim Preston replied.

The 23-year-old Czech is still playing at Wimbledon. He will play Russian Roman Safiullin in the second round.
