Thomas Meunier is no longer a Trabzonspor player. The club announced that the Red Devil had terminated his contract, via a statement published on X, formerly Twitter. The Belgian player had joined the Turkish club in February 2024.

The press release states: “The professional football contract between our club and professional footballer Thomas André Meunier, with a start date of 07.02.2024 and ending on 30.06.2025, has been unilaterally terminated by Thomas André Meunier.”

But that’s not all, as the Turkish club has announced legal proceedings: “Regarding the dismissal pronounced by the footballer, legal proceedings have been initiated against all parties involved, in particular Thomas André Meunier.”

Selected by Domenico Tedesco for Euro 2024, Meunier injured his thigh in the last preparation match against Luxembourg and remained in Belgium to work on his rehabilitation with Lieven Maesschalck. He joined the Red Devils’ squad in Germany after the start of the tournament but did not play in the last group match against Ukraine and the round of 16 against France.

In total, Thomas Meunier wore the Dortmund jersey 83 times (3 goals, 8 assists) between summer 2020 and February 2024. He won the German Cup with BVB in 2021.

Trained in Virton where he made his professional debut in 2009, Thomas Meunier signed for Club Bruges in 2011. The striker turned full-back played 198 matches for the Blauw en Zwart (20 goals, 22 assists) which earned him a transfer to PSG in 2016. The Red Devil (62 caps, 8 goals) played 128 matches in the French capital, scoring 13 goals and providing 22 assists before joining the Ruhr basin at the start of the 2020/2021 season.
