The signature of Tiago Splitter as head coach of Paris Basketball was made official on Monday, July 15. The Brazilian thus takes over from Finnish coach Tuomas Iisalo, who left for a position as assistant coach in the NBA, at the Memphis Grizzlies.

Tiago Splitter, for his part, is taking the opposite path. The former player of Baskonia in the EuroLeague and or the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA has been a coach for five seasons. Assistant coach at the Brooklyn Nets then Houston Rockets in the NBA, as well as in the Brazilian national team, it is in Europe that the former pivot will take the step of coaching his own team.

Parisian president David Kahn expects the Brazilian to “continue to build Paris Basketball”. “As a player, Tiago Splitter won everywhere he played, in the EuroLeague with Baskonia, and with the San Antonio Spurs, where he won an NBA championship alongside Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker. He also learned from Gregg Popovich, the winningest coach in NBA history. As an NBA coach, he worked with Kenny Atkinson and Ime Udoka, two coaches synonymous with hard work, tenacity and preparation. Tiago’s values and belief system in basketball will allow us to continue building Paris Basketball with our core group of players as we discover EuroLeague in this 2024-2025 season.”
The task will not be easy for Tiago Splitter, with the discovery of the EuroLeague and the legacy left by his predecessor, who won the first two titles in the club’s history. Unlike Iisalo, who had imposed his mark on the squad, the 2014 NBA champion will have to deal with the hard core of players from last season. A large majority will discover the EuroLeague, like his coach on October 4 when they host Red Star Belgrade.
