At this year’s Wimbledon tournament, a crazy comeback by Tomás Machác thrilled the German on Wednesday. At X, Becker celebrated Machác’s resurrection as the “craziest comeback on grass” he had ever heard of.

The Czech was already 0-2 down in the first round match against David Goffin, equalised after sets, only to then find himself hopelessly behind 0-5 in the fifth set. However, Machác sensationally came back to 5-5, fell behind again at 5-6 and finally forced the all-decisive tiebreak.

In the end, Machác won the tiebreak of the deciding set 10:5 and celebrated his entry into the second round. He converted his third match point and the tennis miracle was complete. In the next match, Machác will face the Russian Roman Safiullin – who also won in five sets.
