Top 14: Toulon fined half a million euros by the League for lack of transparency on the salary cap

A very heavy fine! Rugby Club Toulonnais was fined 500,000 euros on Tuesday by the Specialized Section “Salary Cap” of the Disciplinary and Regulations Commission of the National Rugby League and immediately announced that it intended to appeal. The Var club was fined for lacking transparency and cooperation during the 2022-2023 season.

“The first instance conviction to a fine of 500,000 euros is firmly contested by the club which, as it has the possibility, will appeal this decision in the next few days to the Appeals Committee of the French Rugby Federation,” the RCT announced in a press release.

The RCT’s repeat offender nature was noted by the specialist “Salary Cap” section of the LNR’s Disciplinary and Regulations Commission, while the club of president Bernard Lemaitre has already been sanctioned for similar acts after the recruitment of South African international winger Cheslin Kolbe. The club was then fined 70,000 euros.
