Zhang Zhijie, a promising badminton player born in 2007, died at just 17 years old, during a championship match. The young man, as can also be seen from the video, suddenly collapsed to the ground. Then, in the throes of convulsions, which were conveniently cut from the images, the young man was rescued and transferred to hospital, where, however, he died at 11.20pm (local time) last Sunday.

The condolences of the federation and the controversy over the relief efforts

Meanwhile, the Chinese badminton federation has expressed its condolences for the death of 17-year-old Zhang Zhijie. The boy, not yet of age, had joined the national team since 2023 and was originally from Jiaxing, in eastern China. According to what was reported by the federation: “Zhang was picked up by the available emergency ambulance and transferred to the hospital in less than two minutes. Unfortunately, the young man’s life could not be saved.”. However, after the full video of the fatal illness was released, many people lashed out at the emergency services, guilty of not having used the defibrillator.
