Five members of a family were killed in the crash of a small plane in the US state of New York. The single-engine Piper PA-46 crashed on Sunday afternoon (local time) after taking off from Albert S. Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on Monday.
According to police, the wreckage of the plane and the remains of the five victims were discovered late in the evening of the same day in Masonville. Drones, off-road vehicles and helicopters were used to search the remote area about 200 kilometers northwest of New York City.
The five family members had attended a baseball tournament in Cooperstown and were on their way home to Georgia when the tragedy occurred. The victims are between ten and 76 years old. An investigation has been launched into the cause of the accident.
