The south of Baden-Württemberg is currently being hit by severe storms – which have led to a curious observation. The focus: the TSG Hoffenheim stadium. The club is reacting.
On Wednesday, the German Weather Service (DWD) had already declared alert level four for the south of Baden-Württemberg: “Extreme storms”. The state is currently being hit by torrential rain, storms and hailstorms. What’s more: there is a “great danger to life and limb from lightning strikes”. People should also be careful of “rapid and widespread flooding of streets, underpasses and cellars”. Landslides are possible (read more about this here).
And one Bundesliga stadium was only partially able to withstand the extreme weather: the Rhein-Neckar-Arena of TSG Hoffenheim. A video lasting just a few seconds on the X platform shows how the interior of the stadium, which has 30,150 seats, was completely flooded by the rain.
While heavy rain is audibly pouring down, the area where the lawn is normally laid is apparently completely covered by the water masses. The video was presumably recorded on Wednesday afternoon when Sinsheim was in the center of a storm.
The club reacted to the video on Friday morning – with a self-ironic response: TSG posted a fish emoji, along with the meme of an Indian Instagram user, trying out an “underwater” filter over his picture and saying amusedly in broken English: “Hello, how are you? I’m under water, help me, it’s raining too much.”
Curiously, by the way: The city of Sinsheim’s website advertises the transport of a historic submarine through the city. The date is July 27th: “TSG Hoffenheim will be celebrating the submarine on the grounds of the arena from 12 noon.” By then, however, the interior of the stadium should at best already be free of masses of water.
The Rhein-Neckar-Arena, which now officially bears the name “Prezero Arena”, was opened in January 2009. At that time, TSG won 6-2 against a selection from the region.
