Uncertainty Surrounds Venue for 2028 Copa América Tournament

The 2024 Copa América has come to an end, but unlike other football tournaments such as the World Cup or the European Championship, the Copa América still does not have a confirmed venue for 2028.

This past Sunday, July 14, the 2024 Copa América concluded, held in the United States, which featured for the second time, after the Centenario Cup held in the same country, with the participation of 16 teams, including four Concacaf teams.

This year’s edition was won by Argentina, who were crowned two-time champions after beating Colombia at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami with a goal by Lautaro Martínez in extra time.

Unlike Euro 2028, which will be hosted by the United Kingdom and Ireland, the venue for the 2028 Copa America has not yet been confirmed.

Possible venues

Currently, they are handled two possible countries to host the 2028 Copa América. One option is to continue with the old Conmebol rotation system, and the other is to follow this year’s model.

According to According to Conmebol’s rotation system, the 2028 host country should be Ecuador, which last hosted the tournament in 1993, which is why in principle it should be the next host country for the continental competition.
