Unintentional Comedy at Wimbledon: The Referee’s Chair Mishap

The referee created a strange situation.

During the first Wimbledon round between Hubert Hurkacz and Radu Albot, a referee caused unintentional comedy. Renaud Lichtenstein was literally wheeled off the court during a rain stop. His elevated seat skidded violently and caused amusement.

When the rain began, preparations to protect the pitch were quickly initiated. This included removing the net and all equipment – including the referee’s chair that Lichtenstein was sitting on. A short time later, the official can be seen being rolled off the pitch and being shaken up quite a bit. He tries hard to keep his balance and makes for some amusing images.

After an hour we continued

The match, which had already started with a surprise as Hurkacz unexpectedly lost the first set 5:7 against Albot, was interrupted during the match. Play resumed an hour later on the outdoor courts. Despite the turbulent incident, Lichtenstein was unfazed and soon returned to the referee’s chair to continue the duel between Hurkacz and Albot.

Such unforeseen events show that even at a tournament rich in tradition such as Wimbledon, nature plays by its own rules and sometimes provides a humorous touch that surprises both participants and fans.
