Unveiling the Rise of Café Bros Baseball: From Coffee Shop to Diamond Dominance

Cream-colored jerseys with yellow motifs invaded the field of play in the Jalisco Baseball League and won over the fans with a team of stars that stood out immediately, as well as questions about the origin of Café Bros Baseball, where is it from and who are the owners? Here we tell you.

Few people know that Café Bros Baseball is the amateur team of the Fernández Dynasty, as it was founded by Ramón and Vicente IV, grandsons of the late ‘Chente’ Fernández, the charro from Mexico. Who, together with his brother-in-law, Marcelo Garza, brought Café Bros Baseball to the Jalisco scene.

What is Café Bros Baseball?

The team’s name was taken from the coffee and beagle business that Ramón and Vicente own in Guadalajara: Café Bro’s, which jumped from the espresso bar to the playing field, taking over the yellow, cream and black colors, its distinctive colors.

Café Bros became a phenomenon in the league and among fans because, from the beginning, it had a presence of professional baseball players, stars in the sport, such as: Roberto Valenzuela, Christian Villanueva, Marco Tovar, Julián Ornelas, among others.

One of the anecdotes that sparked the popularity of the team from Zapopan is that they had to leave the Jalisco Baseball League after the changes in the regulations to prevent professionals from playing in the competition: the Bros were undefeated.

Despite leaving the League, the team of Vicente Fernández Jr.’s children accumulated popularity thanks to its presence on social networks, brand strategy and the incorporation of its women’s roster in the National First Force Tournament.

Café Bros: Who owns the team?

Vicente IV and Ramón are the minds behind the franchise that Café Bros has become, which includes two branches of the coffee shop, its own brand of cold brew called Wake Up and, now, the baseball team that aims to become one of the fans’ favorites.

According to an interview with Beisbol Puro, Vicente IV and his brother have been fans of the ‘king of sports’ since they were children, when they became followers of the Houston Astros.

“It all started as a team of friends playing softball and we came up with the idea of naming it Café Bros, the same name as our business (…) My brother-in-law sponsored a team, but then he preferred to have his own; that’s when we talked about it and the idea of Café Bros Baseball came up,” revealed Vicente IV, the club’s president.

What is the presence of Café Bros Baseball?

Café Bros Baseball is an example of tenacity, as its exit from the Jalisco League did not mean a defeat; on the contrary, the Fernández dynasty team is increasingly recognized at a national level, as it has been invited to give exhibition games in high-level leagues such as the Chihuahua state league.

In addition to joining the Nayarit Winter Baseball League, a circuit that allows three professional baseball players as part of the roster, although one of them can only participate in the playoff round.

With this foray into Nayarit, the team also plans to change its headquarters and become Café Bros Baseball de Tepic, where they would play as locals in the new Santa Teresita stadium.

“Our idea is to play in Tepic. If we don’t manage to do that, then we’ll think about the best venue for us, but we’re going to have a very competitive team, there’s no doubt about that,” said Vicente IV in an interview with Beisbol Puro.
