Top favorite USA will have to do without the services of top star Kawhi Leonard at the Olympic basketball tournament.
As “The Athletic” reports, the 33-year-old’s ongoing knee problems prevent him from taking part. “The Claw” will be replaced by Derrick White from the NBA champion Boston Celtics.
Leonard has been struggling with inflammation in his knee for months and has missed numerous games for his Los Angeles Clippers. He only played in two games in the playoffs last season.
Despite the Clippers pro’s absence, the USA remains the clear favorite at the Olympic Games (July 26 to August 11). Head coach Steve Kerr’s squad includes LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Jayson Tatum and numerous other NBA stars.
In the run-up to the Olympic tournament, the USA will play a friendly against the German world champion team on July 22 in London. The match can be seen live from 8:15 p.m. on ProSieben MAXX, Joyn, ran.de and in the ran app.
