The Valencian Federation of Transport and Logistics Entrepreneurs (FVET) has warned of the need for a “realistic and viable” decarbonisation. According to the latest survey carried out among its members, almost all transporters admit that they are not prepared to take on the new objectives that the European Union has imposed, which involve reducing emissions by 90% by 2040. “Achieving climate-neutral transport poses challenges and the will of all parties is needed to be able to face them,” explained Carlos Prades, president of FVET.

With the demands for decarbonisation so close and taking into account that the renewal cycles are very long, one in three transporters considers it essential to promote aid lines to be able to renew the fleet and undertake this transition. In addition, today, the price of an electric truck is three times the price of a latest generation diesel-powered truck. In fact, 71% of professionals point out the need for more competitive prices to be established in order to make operations profitable and for this transition to be undertaken successfully.

Furthermore, there is no network of charging or refuelling points capable of supplying heavy vehicles, which in some sectors, such as general cargo, travel up to 120,000 kilometres a year. According to the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers, in the Valencian Community there are only 78 charging points with sufficient power for heavy vehicles, that is, 250 kW. “The transition must be accompanied by more charging points that make medium and long distance journeys viable,” says Prades.
