Varvara Gracheva eliminated by Dayana Yastremska

French player Varvara Gracheva lost at the gates of the third round of Wimbledon in three sets against Ukrainian Dayana Yastrmska (3-6, 6-4, 7-6).[10-5]).

Varvara Gracheva (world number 70) was eliminated on Wednesday in the second round of Wimbledon by the Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (number 27) 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10/5) while she served for the match.

Like last year, the new Frenchwoman of Russian origin leaves the tournament in the second round (her best result on the London grass) and it is Yastremska who will face the Croatian Donna Vekic (37th).

At the end of this very tight match (Yastremska had 13 break points and converted six, while Gracheva converted six of 14), Gracheva managed the break to lead 5-4 in the third set and serve for the match. But Yastremska came back to 5-5 and the game ended in a super tie-break. The Ukrainian broke away 5/1 and was not caught again.

But she refused to shake Gracheva’s hand, as Ukrainian players have been doing with their Russian and Belarusian opponents since the start of the war.
