VIDEO. Football-kebab evening for the Blues match: “A breath of fresh air” between the two rounds

“Can you give us a fry, please,” Roni orders, his eyes glued to the giant screen in front of him. With his father, David, they left their phone repair shop late on Monday to cross Avenue de la République in Fontenay-sous-Bois (94) and come watch the Blues match at the kebab shop next door. In the round of 16 of Euro 2024, the French team faced Belgium on July 1 in Düsseldorf.

For the dozen or so customers present in the Turkish restaurant, beyond the pleasure of the sport, it is above all a “breath of fresh air” in a tense political context. “I think that elections create tension in the country and this is felt in the atmosphere of the Euro. Football is fun… But even more so at the moment. We forget what is happening in France,” says David. “It is more relaxing to watch the Euro than a political debate,” confirms Amine, a business manager in the construction industry. After an 85-minute draw, the Blues managed to qualify for the quarter-finals (1-0). The customers of the “Quebab Gourmand” left relieved and with full bellies.
