Viktorija Golubic (WTA 67) did not make it past the first round at Wimbledon. The Swiss No. 1 lost 6-2 6-1 to Germany’s Jule Niemeier (90) 6-2 6-1 in 1h03.
One statistic illustrates the difficulties Golubic encountered on the London grass on Wednesday. She won only two service games in this match, which lasted only 63 minutes. Niemeier (24) also converted the five break points she had.
Niemeier – who reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2022, a year after Golubic – took full advantage of the Zurich player’s lack of power. The German dropped no fewer than 20 winners, compared to just 8 for her opponent, while committing one fewer unforced error (17 against 18).
