1. The Adriatic Cycle Route

The entire coast of the Marche is crossed by the Adriatic Cycle Routethe project to create a single cycle path that It starts from Trieste and arrives in Santa Maria di Leuca.
No, you can’t ride on a dedicated bike path along the entire Marche coastnot yet. But the work is progressing and it is possible to travel along some sections that have already been completed, namely:
– Pesaro-Fano
– Civitanova-Porto Sant’Elpidio
– Cupra Marittima – San Benedetto del Tronto
It’s about asphalt tracks which cannot be considered a single travel itinerary; they run along the beaches and are ideal for exploring the Marche Riviera and alternate cycling and relaxing in the sun.
A good idea for those who travel with childrenfor example.

2. MTB itineraries around Conero

Around and inside the Conero Regional Natural Park you can take very interesting bike routes, between sea and inland, between asphalted and dirt roads, between plains and climbs. But being a hilly area that ends in a promontory, you need to be a bit fit, or use an electric bike (the e-bike cycle tourism is becoming a new way of travelling).

There are several routes not to be missed: among those launched by Apt Marche in the Rebirth project there is a rather challenging one of 103 km that starts from Ancona and returns there, touching Osimo and then pushing further and further inside away Abbey, Jesi, Monte Roberto, then return along the parallel that passes through Montecucco and leads back to Conero. With possible extension up to Fabriano for a total of about 200 km.

But there are more feasible ones, two of which are worth it.
The first is the circumnavigation of the Conero promontorya 38 km ring that touches the Wolf’s Pass and the wonderful beach of Two sistersand 38km ring with departure and arrival from Marcelli di Numana. The villages of Numana and Sirolowhich have the most beautiful beaches in the region, and then we enter the Mount Conero to climb to the top and finally descend back to Marcelli through the Rosso Conero vineyardsThe climbs are challenging and not suitable for beginners,

Another nice tour to do, if you are trained, is the Leopardi’s route, on the poet’s places: a 43 km ring ups and downs of medium difficulty (to be tackled by e-bike or mountain bike) and with a couple of non-trivial climbs.
It is located further south than Conero in the places that inspired Leopardi: the starting point is from Port Recanati and we go up the hills described by Giacomo Leopardi towards Recanatithe poet’s city, where to stop to see the house and the exciting hedge of infinity. The circuit continues towards Potenza Picena and then returns to the starting point.

3. The Path of the Changed Lands by bike

Il Path of the Changed Landsborn in 2018, crosses Marche, Umbria and Abruzzo along the Apennine ridge shaken in recent years by some terrible earthquakes. Now the route that goes from Fabriano to L’Aquila it has become one of the most evocative and loved paths by the public, but also an exhilarating one mountain bike trail.
The itinerary is long 257 km and divided into 14 stages with fairly limited mileage (an average of approximately 20 km per stage).
The stretch within the borders of the Marche is the first; 5 stages from Fabriano to Ussita You cross forests, plateaus, villages among the most beautiful in Italy such as Matelicathe jewel of the Lake of Fiastra and you arrive close to the Sibillini Mountains Park. There are climbs but they are not those of the Dolomites; however, given the ups and downs of the territory, it is a route suitable for those who are moderately trained. Or for those who take it easy, or use an e-bike.
You sleep in structures along the route, you eat the best Italian cuisine, you come across large fields and wide panoramas not always easy to find in our country.
It is also a path with strong spiritual content and, as for the Camino de Santiago, here too there is the Credential for those who complete it, managed by the association of the path, which also indicates the places where to sleep.

4. Bike routes in the Sibillini Mountains

The Sibillini Mountains are a world. part for bike lovers. A kind of mecca of mountain biking and e-mtb. But not only that: there are many possibilities, even for those who prefer asphalt or mixed for gravel bikes
The most complete but very long path is the competition oneMarche Trail: 360 km from Numana to Cupra Maritima, with 7600 meters of altitude difference: it is not technically difficult but certainly challenging. And definitely suggestive: it is for the 70% dirt road and takes you up the Sibillini hills in the middle of nowhere and silence.
More affordable, but not for everyone, the Great Way of the Sibillini Mountains It is a 140 km ring on asphalt that goes around the hills with a difference in altitude of 3500 metres.
Il Great Ring of the Sibillini Mountains It crosses parts of the two routes we have just mentioned and is perhaps the most beautiful itinerary: theand variants range from 115 to 180 kmcan be covered in 3-5 days and take you to discover this wild and unforgettable world.

A shorter ring, the 70 km one is suitable for gravel which starts and returns to Visso, runs along the Nera and touches the limestone gorges of Valnerina, then climbs up to the Colfiorito plateau, then Selvapiana and finally it turns into a descent. It is a truly special itinerary, with fairytale views made up of tiny villages (Fematre, Rio Freddo, Rasenna, Sesi), large spaces of flowery meadows, woods.

75 km, all of asphalt, of thering that has Fiastra as a reference and touches the Macereto plateau, where there is a sanctuary under Mount Boveo. They cross pastures still active and villages that live on sheep farming, where you can taste typical cheeses. You pass by Polverina lakewith its wildlife protection oasis, and then we go back up towards Fiastra.

5. Furlo Gorge by bike

The Furlo Gorge State Nature Reserve is a unique environment in Italy, with its canyon that develops along the course of the Candifgliano river. Needless to say, here you can take one of the most beautiful bike excursions in the Marche. For a short trip, the starting point can be Acquagnahome of the white truffle. A few kilometers away is the Reserve, 3600 hectares of woods and pastures overlooked by mountains. It follows the course of the river nestled in rocky spurs with a drop of up to a thousand metres along the ancient Via Flaminia. You can explore Iron Age caves and Roman buildings, surrounded by green nature and the emerald waters of the river.
Unmissable if you are in these parts, especially with the children. A good idea is to do round trip from Acqualagna to Sant’Anna, for about 20 km.
Those who want to take a longer route can start from Gadana (55 km).

6. The wine routes of the Marche, bike tours

The hills of Verdicchio and Rosso Piceno are the main areas of vine cultivation in the Marche, and can be explored by bicycle in food and wine itineraries.
The Verdicchio hills of the Castelli di Jesi and the Lacrima di Morro d’Alba, are located in the interior of the province of Ancona, in the valley of the Esino river. By bike you go from the river to the hills carpeted with vines and olive groves, in a ring marked by ups and downs. Between one tasting and another you can stop in the village of Mount St. Vitusat the Collegiate Church of San Pietro Apostolo and at Palazzo Malatesta.

The The Rosso Piceno Superiore Road It is located in the San Benedetto del Tronto area and winds along in the hills of Acquaviva Picena up to Offida. A good reference point is the Tenuta Cocci Grifoni in San Savino di Ripatransone, from where itineraries (also guided) depart between vineyards, olive groves, gullies and old country houses. You cycle through the panoramas drawn by the Sibillini Mountains and the Gran Sasso Monti della Laga National Park, skirting vineyards and stopping at cellars for tastings.
