*After two days of regional qualification, the National Sports Institute of Tarapacá awarded the winners of the regional judo tournament, which determined the Tarapacá team that will compete in the grand national final of the School Sports Games.

The regional judo qualifying tournament for the 2024 School Sports Games (SGS) was held with intense, high-level fights, awarding the best U14 athletes, who will represent the region in the grand national final to be held in the Metropolitan Region next October.
This was explained by the Seremi of Sport, Vania Llantén Moreno, who was present at the final day of the regional tournament held at the La Pampa Sports Centre in Alto Hospicio, where the authority highlighted the massive presence of students from different parts of the region. “We are happy with the development of the school judo tournament, we had exponents from schools in Iquique, Pozo Almonte and Alto Hospicio, which shows that this sport is becoming more popular throughout the region,” clarified the Seremi.
The school competition of the School Sports Games is an event organized by the National Institute of Sports and has the support of the Ministry of Education. It seeks to classify the best U14 athletes in the country, who will meet in Santiago to determine the Chilean school team that will compete in the South American School Games in Colombia 2024.
“This sporting event is unique for our students, who will compete in different sports disciplines to qualify for the grand national final. We have great expectations for our students to develop their sporting abilities and compete highly. There are 11 conventional and para-Olympic disciplines that will be part of the national final this year,” explained Vania Llantén.
THE SELECTED
After the qualifying stage, the winners of the respective categories in competition make up the U14 selection of the Tarapacá Region, who will fight for medals in the grand national final to be held in Santiago from October 10. The Seremi of Sport was in charge of the awards ceremony, who congratulated the best judokas of this regional phase.
We will be represented in the women’s category by Maite Velasquez (Code Elena Duvauchelle); Martina Iturra (Gabriela Mistral); Nayara Valverde (Sagrado Corazón), Dominique Videla (San Martin School); Sanae Leal (Lirima School); Maria Jose Fernandez (Code Elena Duvauchelle); Nariel Pietroboni (Bulnes School) and Xiomy Murillo (Code Elena Duvauchelle). The coach of this team is sensei Marco Soto.
In the men’s category, the Tarapacá team was made up of Isaac Carvajal (Sinai Academy); Maximiliano Moreno (Code Elena Duvauchelle); Augusto Hernández (Don Bosco School); Jesús Ferrer (Republic of Italy); Ian Jara (Domingo Savio); André Zegarra (Domingo Savio); Stalin Zegarra (Domingo Savio) and Alfredo Brañez (Don Bosco School). The coach of this group was Sensei Loreto Montaño.
