With their references and their assets, a showdown is announced between the favorites of the Tour de France on the first time trial

Jonas Vingegaard (DAN), 27 ans, Visma-Lease a Bike

The Dane has not carried out any reconnaissance of the course (unlike the one between Monaco and Nice, at the beginning of March). He has simply studied the passages on video and will carry out his first reconnaissance in real conditions this Friday morning. He struggled in the long flat sections of the Galibier descent on Tuesday, a sign that this time trial could be more complicated for him than for the other favourites. 9th in the Tirreno (10 km) and 5th in the Tour of the Basque Country (10 km), he is advancing without certainty.

Remco Evenepoel (BEL), 24 years, Soudal-Quick-Step

Everyone is calling him the huge favourite for this time trial, and the Belgian is very happy in this position. He is full of confidence, knows the course by heart after having done a lot of reconnaissance in recent months. He won the event in the Algarve in mid-February (22 km), lost time to Primoz Roglic, Jay Vine and Mattias Skjelmose in early March in the Basque Country (10 km), but his success in the Dauphiné (34.4 km) has confirmed his ambitions.

Primoz Roglic (SLO), 34 years old, Red-Bull Bora-Hansgrohe

Winner of the prologue of the Tour of the Basque Country on April 1st despite a switch error in the final, the Slovenian had beaten Remco Evenepoel (victim of a fall) and Jonas Vingegaard. But that was three months ago and over a short distance (10 km). During the Dauphiné, over a similar distance to today, he had been beaten by 39 seconds by the Belgian. “Primoz recognized him twice, unfortunately he could not do the descent because they were just resurfacing,” explained Rolf Aldag, his sports director.
