Youngest Judo Team in the League Aims for Title: A Look at Their Success So Far

With an average age of just 18.1 years, our judoka are the youngest team in the league and still want to go for the title. After the first day of competition, which took place this weekend in Frankfurt/Oder, our boys are in second place. In the very first duel, our youngsters had to compete against defending champions RSV Eintracht/PSV Frankfurt/Oder and it was a neck-and-neck race. In the end, the defending champions lost 2:3 and our boys had to get over this small setback. There wasn’t much time to think, though, because BV Lauchhammer was waiting in the next duel. Captain Nick Meyer got his team back on track with a clear 5:0. With the wind at their backs, they were able to defeat the runners-up KG Motor Babelsberg / Köings Wusterhausen 3:2 in the following duel. The match winner was the 15-year-old Ruslan Buttko, who secured the team’s victory with an Ippon when the score was 2:2. With another 5:0 win against JSV Bernau and a 4:1 against Team Lausitz, our boys underlined their claim to the title and are currently in second place in the table, level on points with defending champions KG RSV/PSV, who suffered a defeat against KG Babelsberg/KWH. Team Lausitz is currently in fifth place in the table. With 9 fighters, our “old hands” made up the majority of the team. “Overall, we are satisfied. Our youngsters sometimes still lack experience and our “old hands” unfortunately lack a bit of training,” said a smiling coach Dirk Meyer.

The next match will take place on November 16, 2024 in Lauchhammer. A big thank you goes to HSV Cottbus and JC 90 Frankfurt/Oder for their excellent support!
