Al Bano’s presence at the 2024 Paris Olympics has aroused much curiositynot so much for the fact that the singer from Cellino was present at the meetings – we saw many VIPs among the guests, such as, for example, Marco Mengoni – but precisely because Al Bano was the protagonist singing during the judo finals where the Italian Alice Bellandi won the gold medal in the 78 kg category. Al Bano is touring the French capital, and making special meetings, such as the one with the American rapper Snoop Dogg, already met on other occasions, as he himself wrote on Instagram, but during the day yesterday he also entertained the public by performing Felicità.

The bond between Al Bano and Judo

But what does the singer have to do with judo? Al Bano has been, for some years, the world ambassador of the IJF, the International Judo Federation, to which he has also dedicated an anthem that he sings during events, as happened for the world championship held in Budapest in 2017, in which Vladimir Putin participated – albeit to a lesser extent than expected. The singer became ambassador thanks to the friendship that binds him to the international president, the Romanian and former judoka Marius Vizer, as the singer himself explained in an interview with the Gazzetta dello Sport during the famous Hungarian world championship.

The judo anthem written by the singer

On that occasion, in fact, Al Bano explained: “He wanted to meet me a few years ago because he was passionate about a song of mine called ‘Libertà’ and that’s where this friendship began. Then he proposed that I become a judo ambassador. When I heard the music of the federation’s anthem I really liked it. So I brought it to Minellomo (songwriter and musician, ed.) and we composed the lyrics that I sang today”. And during the Olympics, therefore, he couldn’t miss it, singing one of his most famous and beloved songs in Italy and abroad.

Al Bano’s emotion at the Paris Olympics

On Instagram, the singer from Cellino San Marco wrote: “A binge of: HAPPINESS! I think it somehow brightens up the day ✌️😄 From the Olympic Games in Paris and the International Judo Federation arena, a big hug… and lots of sport, it’s good for your health”. As for the photo with Snoop Dogg, Al Bano joked in the caption, writing: “2 musical opposites, @snoopdogg and I, we met during the Judo competitions in Paris for the Olympic Games and he told me he was born in Corleone… Obviously I don’t believe it and I know why but he knows it too! Anyway, very nice”.
