by Salvatore Riggio

Alice Bellandi triumphed in the category up to 78 kilos: after the victory she ran to the stands to kiss her girlfriend Jasmine: «What are you surprised about, sport is love. Everything is love»

Alice Bellandi, 26 years old from Roncadelle (Brescia), gave the first judo medal to Italy of this Olympic expedition in Paris, after the refereeing controversies of the last few days. She triumphed in the category up to 78 kilos against the Israeli Inbar Lanir, world champion in 2023.

A gold that confirmed her strength and how her first place in the world ranking is not a coincidence. And after the triumph, Alice ran to the stands and kissed her partner Jasmine. “It’s a gold full of love,” said the new Italian Olympian. “I’m sorry that this kiss is seen as something extraordinary. It’s love, who would you kiss after such important results? Surely, as everything moves for love, sport is love, friendship is love, partners are love…”

She recalled the famous kiss, live on television, of Iker Casillas to Sara Carbonero, at the time the wife of the Spanish goalkeeper, at the end of the World Cup final against the Netherlands of South Africa 2010. A kiss that thrilled everyone, just like this wonderful one of Alice Bellandi to Jasmine. An immense joy. And in the stands to follow the final of the Italian judoka there was also the Premier Giorgia Meloni, who at the end of the match joined her on the tatami for a hug.

“The gold medal? It’s heavy, but I couldn’t imagine anything else. This is a dream I’ve been chasing for a long time, made real with hard work and a pinch of luck, which is always useful.”
