ASSE Coach Reflects on Young Squad’s Performance in Narrow Loss to Getafe Ahead of Ligue 1 Return

ASSE played against Getafe. A fifth friendly match 10 days before its big return to Ligue 1 against Monaco. After the defeat by one goal to zero, the Saint-Etienne coach reacted on the official ASSE website.

Olivier Dall’Oglio (ASSE Manager): “There were some good things with a very, very young team and also some naivety, especially on the goal conceded where we were not in place. I then found that the team was quite disciplined, with a good state of mind. I still regret the lack of technique on the passes and controls which did not allow us to launch our attacks. It’s a shame, because there were some interesting things. We also lacked finishing in our shooting situations, but with the youth of our team against a more mature team with more strength, it was good. I saw some interesting things and ball releases, we now need to weigh more on the opponent by improving our finishing.

I had to make choices. We are in different forms, that’s for sure. I wanted to see Mathis Amougou and Ayman Aiki, back from the U19 Euro, at work. We will of course have a different starting line-up on Saturday. Kiel is an athletic team, we will have to be present, and we will be able to compare ourselves to another promoted team, who kept the basics of last season. They have an interesting quality of play. They are good oppositions, you have to be in difficulty and that suits me. We will have a fairly long trip, we will have to be united to bring something back from there.
