Chase Budinger’s Olympic Journey Ends: Former NBA Star Exits Beach Volleyball Competition in Eighth Finals

The eighth finals of the men’s tournament are currently being played beach volley at the Paris Olympics. While waiting for the Italians Cottafava-Nicolai, who will challenge the USA at 5 pm, in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower the elimination of the other American duo took place, the one that includes the former NBA player Chase Budinger. Together with his partner Miles Evans, Budinger lost 2-0 against Norwegians Sorum and Mol.

Budinger, at his first appearance at the Olympics, had already risked elimination with a preliminary phase of 1 win and 2 losses. The American duo then saved themselves by winning the Lucky Loser, a sort of challenge for the repechage, 2-0 against the Australians. Today then the end of the Olympic adventure with the KO against the Norwegians.

Chase Budinger, born in 1988, therefore says goodbye to the Olympics with 2 wins and 3 losses in total: not bad for someone who started out as a basketball player. The athlete has played 407 games in the NBA and a brief stint at Baskonia in the 2015-16 season before choosing another path. He was one of two former NBA players to compete in the Olympics in disciplines other than 5×5 basketball: the other was Jimmer Fredette, eliminated yesterday from the 3×3 basketball tournament. Fredette, however, has the mitigating factor of a serious ligament injury suffered in the second game in Paris.
