DJ LeMahieu’s Late-Game Heroics Propel Yankees Past Blue Jays in Extra Innings Showdown

DJ LeMahieu settled the debate with a single in the 10th inning to give the New York Yankees a 4-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday after a lengthy rain delay.

They thus signed a seventh victory in eight games. The Yankees thus remain tied with the Baltimore Orioles, who won 9-5 against the Cleveland Guardians, at the top of the East division of the American League by virtue of a record of 67-46.

Alejandro Kirk forced overtime after tying the game at 3-3 with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.

The only home run of the game was hit by Juan Soto, his 28th of the season, in the seventh inning.

Aaron Judge drew three intentional walks for the Blue Jays, the first time a Yankee has done so since Bernie Williams in 1999.

After missing a start due to fatigue, ace pitcher Gerrit Cole returned to the mound for New York. He allowed two earned runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings and struck out four batters.

In his previous start, on July 24, he allowed three home runs to the New York Mets in a 12-3 loss.

Cole didn’t start his season until June 19. Right elbow inflammation had kept him sidelined since training camp.
