At 21:55 – Patience is always key in long distance running and it was Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegi who showed more patience than anyone else to take a thrilling gold medal in the 10,000m final.

In a fast and frantic race where the Ethiopians were too quick out of the starting block, Cheptegi was calm and waited for his moment to attack and when he did, there was simply no one to catch him.

At 21:40 – The quarter-finals were the last stop for the men’s singles in badminton Anders Antonsen at this year’s Olympics.

Read more about that match here.

His score of 63.090 was too high for the Chinese duo of Ziasi Wang and Langyu Yan. Wang took silver with a score of 61.890 and Yan took bronze ahead of Great Britain’s Zak Perzamanos with 60.950.

At 16:15 – Taiwan’s two-time world champion Lin Yu-ting, one of the two boxers at the center of a gender row, won her featherweight round-of-16 bout against Uzbekistan’s Sidora Turdibekova on points in a unanimous decision at the Paris Olympics.

The 28-year-old Taiwanese, along with Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who won her welterweight round of 16 over Italy’s Angela Cariniin after 46 seconds on Thursday, have been the focus of the gender controversy after being cleared to compete at the Olympics.

Both had been disqualified from the 2023 world championships after breaching International Boxing Association rules, which prevent athletes with male XY chromosomes from competing in women’s competitions.

The Paris boxing event is run by the International Olympic Committee after it stripped the IBA of international recognition in 2023 due to management and financial problems, and the IOC has said women have every right to compete in Paris.
