Jokic Leads Serbia to Victory as China Dominates Diving at Paris Olympics

PARIS — Nikola Jokic, the NBA’s most valuable player of the past season, once again shone through on Tuesday at the Paris Olympics.

Jokic had 21 points and 14 rebounds to help Serbia beat Australia 95-90 in the quarterfinals of the men’s Olympic basketball tournament.

Serbia is seeking its first Olympic medal in men’s basketball since the Rio Games in 2016, when it won silver.

Greece’s star player Giannis Antetokounmpo saw its run come to an end following a 76-63 loss to Germany.

Franz Wagner collected 18 points for Germany, who are still unbeaten in four games in Paris after winning three of the group stage.

Germany’s best result in men’s basketball was seventh place at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

In the swimming pool, as has been the custom for several Olympic Games now, China dominated the diving competitions.

In the women’s 10-metre platform, China’s Hongchan Quan won the gold medal with a total of 425.60 points, ahead of her compatriot Yuxi Chen (420.70). They finished in the same order three years ago at the Tokyo Games. North Korea’s Mi Rae Kim followed in third place.

Quan set the tone for the final on Tuesday with a perfect score for his first dive.

In the first round of the men’s three-metre springboard heats, China’s Zongyuan Wang (530.65) edged out compatriot Siyi Xie (509.60) to take first place.

In women’s skateboarding, Japan’s Cocona Hiraki, a silver medalist at the Tokyo Games, took first place in the preliminaries of the park event with a score of 88.07.

The reigning Olympic champion, Sakura Yosozumi of Japan, finished 10th and will not compete in the final.

Finally, the German Christian Kukuk and his horse Checker 47 won the gold medal in the individual show jumping event.
