49ers without Christian McCaffrey for preseason

The 49ers will be without their star running back as they prepare for the season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said at a news conference Tuesday that Christian McCaffrey suffered a calf strain. The running back will not play at all in preseason due to his injury and is expected to be out of practice for several weeks.

The 49ers are also practicing without their backup running back. Elijah Mitchell due to a hamstring injury.

Brandon Aiyuk: Patriots would drop the deal

There would be one less team in the race for a trade for Brandon Aiyuk (WR, 49ers). According to ESPN, the Patriots have decided to no longer be involved in talks to bring in the receiver.

New England appeared poised to make Aiyuk one of the league’s five highest-paid receivers, and had been trying to land him for months. But NBC reports the player didn’t want to go.

According to NFL Media, the Browns are still in the race, and the Steelers are said to be coming back into the fray.

Echoes from the training camps

– Advantage Russell Wilson (QB) aux Steelers. The veteran is officially listed as the No. 1 prospect at his position on Pittsburgh’s first all-star team. Justin Fields is his backup.

Sam Darnold (QB, Vikings) is the number one quarterback for the Vikings. That’s according to the franchise’s first All-Star team. JJ McCarthy (QB) and Nick Mullens (QB) are both rated at number two.

Jarrett Stidham (QB, Broncos) at number one, Zach Wilson (QB) at two and Bo Nix (QB) at third man. That’s the order the Broncos gave their first official quarterback all-star team. And it’s a little depressing.

– The fight for the quarterback position is raging in Las Vegas. On Monday, Antonio Pierce explained to the press that Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell will both get playing time in their teams’ first preseason game on Saturday, ideally roughly the same number of snaps. Who will start? That’s not announced at this point. Especially since the coach assured that neither man has really stood out at this point.

– Still looking for a new contract, CeeDee Lamb (WR, Cowboys) failed to report to the start of training camp. On Tuesday, he was officially placed on the franchise’s no-show list. He could be fined $40,000 for each day he misses. The good news for the 25-year-old is that he is still on his rookie contract, and the fines could be waived, especially if he can reach an agreement with his management on an extension.

– Dan Quinn announced on Tuesday that Jayden Daniels (QB, Commanders) “earned the right” to start the first preseason game.

– Matt LaFleur announced that Jordan Love (QB, Packers) will be a starter for Green Bay’s first preseason game. Other starters will also be on the field. The Packers play the Browns on Saturday.

– We shouldn’t see Lions starters in the first preseason game. That’s what Dan Campbell suggested in a press conference. Detroit faces the Giants on Thursday night.

– Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said during his Tuesday press conference that Deshaun Watson (QB) will not play in the preseason opener against the Packers.

– Panthers coach Dave Canales told reporters at his Tuesday news conference that Bryce Young (QB, Panthers) would not participate in Thursday’s game against the Patriots. In contrast, New England coach Jared Mayo announced that the plan was to play all four of his quarterbacks in the preseason. As a reminder, these are Jacoby Brissett, first-round draft pick Drake Maye, sixth-rounder Joe Milton and Bailey Zappe.

– Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon announced at a press conference on Tuesday that Kyler Murray (QB) would not play this preseason.

Injuries

– Even if Puka Nacua (WR, Rams) is injured in the knee, no panic on the Los Angeles side. Sean McVay assured the press that there is no risk that his receiver will miss the first game of the regular season against the Lions.

Emmanuel Moseley (CB, Lions) has a torn pectoral muscle and will be out until further notice. The cornerback continues to accumulate injuries. Last year he played only one game because of a knee injury. The year before it was the other knee that kept him out of 12 games.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson (S, Eagles) left Monday’s practice with a shoulder injury. He did not practice Tuesday but the injury is not believed to be serious. (NBC Sports)

– Le rookie Ricky Pearsall (WR) was forced to leave Tuesday’s practice with a shoulder injury that his coach, Kyle Shanahan, said aggravated in the spring.

They are placed on injured reserve and will miss at least 4 games: Malik Turner (WR, 49ers), Sam Williams (DE, Cowboys)

Rumors and Transactions

– The Ravens announced on social media on Tuesday that they had signed the receiver to a contract Russell GageIn 2023, with the Buccaneers, he ruptured his patellar tendon before the start of the season.

– The Cowboys announced the death of Duane Thomas, who was the starting running back when they won their first title at the end of the 1971 season. He was 77. The franchise did not specify the cause of death.

One of Tom Brady’s Last Patriots Memorabilia is Up for Sale

The ball from Tom Brady’s last pass with the Patriots is up for auction.

In January 2020, Brady threw a pick-six for his final pass that sealed a 20-14 playoff loss to the Titans. The interception’s author, now-retired Titans DB Logan Ryan, decided to put the autographed ball up for sale after keeping it for five years.

This ball is currently available through Goldin Auctions with a starting bid of $100,000.

New round between the Giants and the Lions

This Tuesday, the joint training sessions between the Giants and the Lions continued. And the fights continued too.

In this last videowe see the Giants’ rookie receiver Malik Nabers give a first slap to Kerby Joseph (S, Lions). A new general fight ensued.
