Lauri Markkanen Secures $238 Million Extension with the Utah Jazz Amidst Trade Talks

Finnish forward Lauri Markkanen has reached a five-year, $238 million extension with the Utah Jazz, media sources confirmed. ESPN.

His new commitment will be an additional 220 million plus the 18 million he had left to collect in the next 2024-25 season.

Although the Salt Lake City franchise had talks with the Golden State Warriors about a transfer for the aforementioned Markkanen, he will ultimately continue (for now) on the team led by coach Will Hardy.

“They showed me that they believe in me. From the owners, from the management and from coach Will (Hardy),” Markkanen said of his extension.

“There is a really good atmosphere in the locker room. I believe in this team and I want to help it grow and I want to grow as a player too. In building a winning team for future challenges,” he explained.

Markkanen came to the Jazz on August 28, 2021 in a triple-deal with Portland and Cleveland that ended with star Donovan Mitchell joining the Ohio team.

Since his arrival with the Jazz, he has played 121 official games with the best averages of his NBA career: 24.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 33.8 minutes per day.
