Lorenzo Musetti has been considered one of the best tennis players in Italy and one of the most talented in the world for several years. Now the 22-year-old has celebrated his greatest success.

Many voices have been raised: will Lorenzo Musetti really make the breakthrough? The answer: the Italian is now on his way to becoming a star. After reaching the semi-finals at Wimbledon a few weeks ago, the man from Carrara has gone one better at the Olympics in Paris: Musetti won the small final on Saturday against the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime after a tough fight with 6:4, 1:6 and 6:3, thus securing Olympic bronze.

Things didn’t look good for Musetti in the second set. But the Azzurro, who has also been in the shadow of Jannik Sinner in recent years, kept his nerve and celebrated the greatest success of his career. The fact is: Musetti has a lot of potential and can play almost all shots. The young man from Tuscany can be expected to be in this form in the future. After Sinner did not compete, Musetti successfully held the Italian tennis flag high in Paris.

After 2 hours and 15 minutes, Musetti converted his first match point on the Centre Court in Paris under a roof that was closed because of the rain. Musetti secured Italy’s second medal in tennis. In 1924, 100 years ago, Umberto de Morpurgo won bronze in Paris. On Sunday, Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani still have a chance of winning gold in the women’s doubles.
