In a video shared by the Spanish Olympic Committee, He Bing Jiao explained why she went up to the podium with the pin at the medal ceremony: “I wanted to share the honour of being there with her and being together at that moment,” said the Chinese athlete in a video in which she also wished Marín a speedy recovery.
“She has overcome obstacles and injuries before and I trust that she will do it again. I hope that she will return to competition very soon,” explained the Olympic silver medalist, who posed with a Spanish flag with the phrase “Strength Carolina.”
