PSG Restructures Squad: João Neves Signing and Departure of Unwanted Players Signal New Era

While it will soon make the recruitment of João Neves official, PSG has completed the departure of two unwanted players this week, allowing its loft to slowly but surely reduce.

PSG resumed training on July 15 under Luis Enrique and players under professional contracts who did not fit into the Spanish coach’s plans were notified and asked to find a new club. While waiting to do so, these players are training at the PSG Campus like the others, but away from the professional group, and a few days ago they joined the new Espoirs group made up of U23 players.

If there is no longer really a loft as such at PSG, but rather a mix of U23s and unwanted players, six players are invited to change air by the end of the transfer window. There were eight before this week, but Noha Lemina was transferred to Annecy while Renato Sanches will be loaned to SL Benfica as part of the transfer of João Neves, with a purchase option of 10 million euros.

As it stands, the last six PSG lofters are:

  • Juan Bernat (31 years old, left back)
  • Colin Dagba (25 years old, right back)
  • Louis Mouquet (20 years old, goalkeeper)
  • Ismaël Gharbi (20 years old, attacking midfielder)
  • Ilyes Housni (19 years old, attacking midfielder)
  • Vimoj Muntu Wa Mungu (19 ans, latéral gauche)

According to Benjamin Quarez, from Le Parisien, the PSG Espoirs group plus the lofteurs faced Chartres this Friday in a friendly at the PSG Campus and only half of the lofteurs in question played, namely Ilyes Housni, Louis Mouquet and Vimoj Muntu Wa Mungu.

In other words, Juan Bernat, Colin Dagba and Ismaël Gharbi, the three most seasoned players in the loft, did not take part in this opposition. A sign of a departure closer than the others? This is one of the challenges of the coming weeks.
