PSV Eyes Robin Gosens as Defensive Reinforcement Amid Transfer Speculations

In recent days, there has been a flurry of rumours surrounding defenders who are reportedly being considered to strengthen the defence.

The German Kicker now reports that PSV has set its sights on Robin Gosens. According to the German medium, the Eindhoven team has been ‘interfering’ with the future of the thirty-year-old wing defender of Union Berlin in recent days. The German Dutchman or in other words Dutch German is allowed to leave his employer Union Berlin.

Gosens can now count on international interest from clubs such as Benfica, Besiktas, Bologna and Torino. None of the clubs mentioned have reached an agreement on a transfer.

Now PSV is also said to be in the race, according to reports in Germany. The reasons for this are clear. Stewart, Brands and Bosz are desperately looking for a new left back due to the injuries of Sergiño Dest and Mauro Júnior. In the lost battle for the Johan Cruijff Shield, the defensive problems became even clearer and the left flank in particular is in urgent need of reinforcements.

On Thursday, German media reported that Gosens, who was born in Emmerich on the Dutch-German border, has appeared on PSV’s radar. How specific that is, is not reported by Kicker. According to Voetbal International, ‘the chance is big that this player has also been offered’.

Union Berlin broke their own transfer record a year ago by paying thirteen million euros for Gosens. A year later he can leave for a similar amount. For the left wing, the best option seems to be to set up a loan construction given the later return of Dest this season. The injured wing defender will normally report to the training field in February or March of next season.

Gosens previously played for Vitesse, FC Dordrecht. Heracles Almelo, Atalanta Bergamo and Internazionale. He is also an international for Germany twenty times. The last few days a lot of names passed by but Stewart seems to take his time with regard to Patrick van Aanholt, Owen Wijndal, Kenny Tete and Milan van Ewijk.
