Silverstone will be the scene of a great fight for the MotoGP 75th anniversary GP

BARCELONA, 1 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The British Grand Prix at the historic Silverstone circuit brings to an end the summer break and, in the tenth round of the World Championship, will put on the line a great battle for victory in a Grand Prix that will serve to celebrate the 75th anniversary of MotoGP, with new ‘vintage’ designs for all the teams to commemorate the event.

A special date on an iconic circuit where, after almost a month of absence from competition, the Italian Francesco ‘Pecco’ Bagnaia (Ducati) arrives as leader, after taking that first position in the last German Grand Prix, to the detriment of the Spaniard Jorge Martín (Ducati).

‘Martinator’ crashed in Sunday’s race in Germany and that ‘0’ made him lose the lead, a lead that was wide but had already been reduced in the previous races. And, despite being better on Saturday in the Sprint, he left Sachsenring with a 10-point disadvantage over ‘Pecco’.

Although there is still a long way to go, this scenario already looks very similar to the final stretch of 2023, with Martín and Bagnaia fighting for the world title. Third place goes to Marc Márquez (Ducati), who in 2025 will swap his Gresini for the official bike and share a box with Bagnaia, while Martín will be the leader and new ‘captain’ at Aprilia, with permission from Maverick Viñales.

Even more exciting is the fight for the championship at Silverstone, which is still very much open. Although we don’t know what the weather will be like for the riders, it is a track where Ducati does not dominate as easily as it does on other circuits and where the Aprilias and KTMs can have more say and weight during the weekend.

Last year, in 2023, the weekend brought surprises. For example, the victory of the Spaniard Álex Márquez with his Gresini Ducati in the Sprint on Saturday and, on Sunday, another national victory for Aleix Espargaró and his Aprilia, with Pecco Bagnaia second and the South African Brad Binder (KTM) third on Sunday.

In addition, the eleven MotoGP teams will be putting new designs on their bikes into competition and it will be more difficult to know who is who. Once all the ‘vintage’ versions of the motorcycles have been presented, there will be a parallel battle to be the most beautiful and the one that best represents MotoGP on the 75th anniversary of the world of motorcycling, with tributes to Valentino Rossi, Ángel Nieto, Fausto Gresini and Freddie Spencer, among others.

RENEWED BATTLES IN MOTO2 AND MOTO3

In Moto2, Spaniard Sergio Garcia Dols arrives at Silverstone as leader but with just a 7-point lead over Japanese rider Ai Ogura. And American Joe Roberts is 24 points off the lead, still within a race’s margin. So there will be a fight in the intermediate class, with Spaniard Fermin Aldeguera, winner in Germany, fourth at 39 points and eager to continue to make progress.

And in the smaller Moto3 category, it will be a free-for-all for David Alonso. The Colombian of Spanish origin leads the championship by a solid 58-point margin over the Spaniard Ivan Ortolá, 59 over the also Spaniard Daniel Holgado and 64 over the Dutchman Collin Veijer. A lot of margin, but at Silverstone, Alonso’s rivals will try to start to change the course of the World Championship.
